The Vereinigung Cockpit union is demanding higher pensions for pilots, while the UFO cabin crew union wants to force the employer to negotiate various collective agreements, reports HINA.
Passengers have been told to prepare for flight cancellations and delays, and the strike is expected to affect all departures from Germany. Cargo flights will also be affected.
It is not known how many flights will be cancelled. A spokesperson for the company said they were waiting for more detailed information from the union.
Pilots last year voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action over higher employer contributions to pensions.
With the strike, which was called without a vote, UFO wants to force the employer to negotiate collective agreements in the parent company Lufthansa and the regional subsidiary CityLine. In CityLine alone, around 800 jobs are reportedly at risk due to the move.
According to the union’s newsletter, management is refusing to negotiate. Until now, the parent company has waited in vain for negotiations on a collective agreement.
