For the Rossoneri, this is a period of great uncertainty, given that the club currently does not have a head coach, sporting director, technical director or executive director. At the same time, there are increasingly loud speculations that several stars could leave San Siro, among them Leao.
The Portuguese spent seven seasons in Milan, won the Italian championship and was named the best player in Serie A in the 2021/22 season. However, he failed to repeat his best performances last season after coach Massimiliano Allegri used him more often in the central attacking role instead of his natural position on the left wing.
An additional reason for a possible departure is the fact that Milan will not play in European competitions next season, so the Italian media believe that right now is the right time to say goodbye.
Leao did not hide that he has the ambition to try his hand at another league, and in his last interview he said that he wants to continue playing at the highest European level.
“I think I gave everything I had to Milan. I want a new challenge and a new experience in the second league,” said Leao, practically confirming that his era at San Siro is coming to an end.
