International flights to and from Damascus will resume on Tuesday, after being suspended in December when rebels took control of the airport, the Syrian news agency Sana reported.
“We are announcing the resumption of international flights to and from Damascus International Airport from Tuesday,” said the head of the Civil Aviation and Transport Authority, Ashhad Al-Salibi, as reported by Beta.
“We assure Arab and international airlines that we have undertaken the rehabilitation phase of Halepp and Damascus airports with the help of our partners so that they can receive planes from all over the world, he added.
International aid planes have already landed in Syria, as have domestic planes.
Qatar Airways announced on Thursday that it is re-establishing flights to the Syrian capital from Tuesday, after almost 13 years of interruption.
