According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, an unnamed Israeli official said that “Washington has set April 9 as the target date for ending the war, leaving about 21 days for continued fighting and negotiations.”
The same source added that “talks between Iran and the United States are expected later this week in Pakistan,” noting that Washington had not informed Israel of the details of its contacts with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
The newspaper also cited Israeli estimates that the United States is already holding indirect talks with Qalibaf, following statements by the US president about contacts with Iran aimed at ending the war. However, Qalibaf said there had been no talks with the United States, dismissing the reports as “fake news” aimed at manipulating the financial and oil markets.
US President Donald Trump said earlier Monday that he had ordered a five-day delay in all attacks on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure, citing “very good and productive” talks with Tehran over the past two days.
Regional escalation has continued to rise since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on February 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks on Israel, as well as on Jordan, Iraq and the Gulf states where US military facilities are located, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure and disrupting global markets and air traffic.
