Jalda Abbasi, a prominent Kurdish musician, singer and dutara player, originally from Shirvan in North Khorasan province and currently living in Germany, was arrested and sentenced to one year in prison by the Iranian government.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Abbasi was arrested on Friday, January 23, 2026, at her family home in Mashhad.
She was immediately transferred to the Vakilabad jail for the execution of the previously pronounced sentence without her presence or legal representation.
Sources state that after her arrest, she was informed that she was sentenced in absentia to one year in prison in a case related to her artistic and civic activities during the “Women, Life, Freedom” protest.
Abbasieva, the mother of a 17-month-old child, traveled from Germany to Iran with her husband and child during the Christmas holidays to visit her family, “Hengaw” reports.
