“The Strait of Hormuz will be reopened only when part of the transit revenue is used to compensate for all the damage caused by the imposed war,” Mehdi Tabatabai, deputy for communications and information at Iran’s presidential office, said on the US-based company X’s social media platform.
Tabatabai sharply criticized US President Donald Trump, saying he “resorted to insults and nonsense out of desperation and anger,” and accused him of “starting a large-scale war in the region and still bragging.”
The region has been on high alert since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on February 28, which has so far killed more than 1,400 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile attacks on Israel, as well as on Jordan, Iraq and the Persian Gulf countries where US military units are stationed.
Iran has also restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
