Iran announced on Sunday that the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, had been killed in a Saturday attack by US-Israeli forces.
– The leader of the Islamic Revolution died as a martyr after the attack of the Zionist regime and the United States of America on Saturday morning – it was stated in the statement.
Highlighting Imam Khamenei’s leadership for over 37 years, the statement described the late leader as an example of self-sacrifice and resistance in the modern age.
The administration expressed its condolences to the Iranian nation and “to all free-thinking people of the world on this great loss.”
40 days of national mourning were also declared.
– This great crime will not go unanswered and those behind it will have to regret their move – the statement further states.
Ayatollah Khamenei has led Iran for 37 years since the death of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1989.
The Iranian armed forces responded to the US-Israeli attacks with massive missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases in the region.
