The legendary French striker Thierry Henry gave an interview to the Spanish Marca. The conversation was devoted to the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico (from June 11 to July 19), and the former player of Monaco, Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal icon highlighted what he expects from the tournament.
Although at no time was he asked a question about the Croatian national team, himself Henry pointed her out several timesand at the same time said how much he admires its captain Luka Modrić. The World Cup starts three months before Modric’s 41st birthday.
Enumerating the favorites of the tournament, Henry emphasized that the current champion Argentina must respecthighlighted his strength of France and praised Spainwhich is constantly producing players. Then he said that the form of the team in the competition itself is important and added:
It seemed that the golden generation of Croatia was gone, and yet, Croatia is always there. With Modrić and others. I respect her a lot.
What’s interesting about the World Cup is that you play in that tournament, but you don’t prepare for it. The selectors have no time for training. Players come to the competition overloaded with minutes and games and they are under enormous pressure from all sides. That’s why there are so many disappointmentsHenry added, reports Index.hr.
Special praise for Modrić
Asked to comment on the fact that this World Cup will be the sixth to feature Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Henry said:
I don’t know what else to say about them. They are not normal. It’s not just a matter of them always being at the very top of the world; their goals, records… Me their longevity fascinatesthat’s what I respect them for the most. And talking about longevity means talking about a healthy diet, not going out, being with family, training well, working harder than everyone else.
The way they lead their lives deserves a hat off. They are still among the best. They are from another galaxy. Same as Luka Modric. It is incredible that for all of them it seems that the end of their career is better than the beginning. They do not have a single “prime” period, they have been living in it for yearsconcluded the world and European champion with France.
Let us remind you that Croatia starts the World Cup in Group L, which also includes England, Panama and Ghana.
