Ukraine has reached an agreement with its Western partners that any persistent Russian violation of a future ceasefire agreement would trigger a coordinated military response from Europe and the United States, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing well-informed sources.
Reuters has not yet been able to independently confirm these allegations.
Ukrainian, European and American officials discussed this plan on several occasions in December and January. The plan envisages a multi-phase response to any Russian violation of the agreed ceasefire, according to the report.
According to the Financial Times, delegations from Kiev, Moscow and Washington will meet in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss ending the war.
Under the proposal, any Russian violation of the ceasefire would trigger a response within 24 hours, starting with a diplomatic warning and, if necessary, military action by Ukrainian forces to stop the violation.
If the hostilities continued, the plan would move to the second phase of the intervention, which would involve the engagement of the forces of the so-called coalition of the willing, which includes numerous members of the European Union, as well as the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland and Turkey.
In the event of a wider attack, the report said a coordinated response by Western-backed forces, including the US military, would be launched 72 hours after the initial ceasefire violation.
