According to the data submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Public Company Autoceste FBiH, from January 1, 2020 to August 31, 2025, nearly 3.015 billion KM were invested in highways and expressways in the territory of this entity.
Distribution of three billion KM
The data show that the most money, when it comes to highways, was invested in Corridor Vc, namely in the Zenica-Doboj Canton more than 2.125 billion, Herzegovina-Neretva more than 308 million and Sarajevo more than 293 million KM.
For comparison, in the most populous canton of FBiH, Tuzla, only a little more than eight million KM was invested and only in project documentation, because any construction is years away from realization. In Posavina Canton, which according to the last census has just over 40 thousand inhabitants, 8.3 million KM were invested in highways.
When it comes to expressways in the period from 2020 to 2025, the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton leads with more than 143 million, followed by the Central Bosnian Canton with almost 94 million, the Western Herzegovina Canton with nearly 30 million, and the Una-Sana Canton with 3.7 million KM invested.
These data can be seen from the reply that the delegate in the House of Peoples of FBiH, Damir Šišić (SDA), received from the relevant ministry, that is, the public companies Roads and Highways of the FBiH. Šišić, who is from Doboj Istok, also asked how far the projects for the construction of highways and expressways in the TK area have come, which for now only exist on paper.
Roads in TK
In the response of the FBiH Highways, they state that the preliminary and main design of the Tuzla-Maoča section of the highway is in the final phase, but that the process is hindered by administrative obstacles, especially the impossibility of converting agricultural and forest land into construction land.
When it comes to the development of project documentation for the continuation of the highway towards Brčko, it is stated that this section is in the FBiH Highway plan, but the development of the documentation depends on the signing of an agreement between the FBiH, Republika Srpska and Brčko District.
The conceptual project of the Tuzla – Žepče highway has been completed, but there are currently no planned activities for concrete implementation.
For the expressway Doboj Istok – Gračanica – Šićki Brod – Dubrave – Kalesija, they answered that the completion of conceptual solutions should be completed in 2025, and in 2026 a tender for the development of conceptual projects will follow.
From all of the above, it is clear that TK will certainly not see a single meter of expressway or highway even in the next few years, and it is an area with approximately 157,000 registered vehicles, which is approximately 12 percent of the total number in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the industrial center of the Federation of BiH.
Investments in highways
Information on investments in highways in the period from 2020 to 2024 was submitted by the Public Company of Roads of the FBiH. It was stated that more than 136 million KM was invested in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, almost 50 million in Central Bosnia, 32.5 million in Tuzla, 31.8 million in Una-Sanka, 20.5 million in West Herzegovina, 13.1 million in Livonia, 11.4 million in Sarajevo, 9.9 million in Zenica-Doboj, 5.5 million in Posavina and Bosnian-Podrinje three million.
