An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the southern Greek island of Crete last night, but there were no reports of damage or injuries, the Athens Institute of Geodynamics announced.
The report states that the earthquake occurred under the seabed at 00:33 hours, 56 kilometers west of Paleochora, in the western part of Crete.
The epicenter was at a depth of 29.5 kilometers, the Ekathimerini portal reported.
Crete is one of the most seismologically active areas in Greece and the world, but earthquakes that cause serious damage and casualties are rare.
