The research showed that 38 percent of respondents support this measure, 20 percent of them are against, and 37 percent are restrained.
The proposal, included in the coalition agreement of the new German government, would replace the existing daily eight-hour limit to the weekly restriction, with the aim of enabling greater flexibility in the work time schedule.
According to the proposed change, employees could work a longer smaller number of days, for example, four days for 10 hours instead of five days for eight hours.
From respondents who advocate these measures, 82 percent have said that the model offers greater flexibility, such as enabling longer weekends. About 44 percent also see the benefits for employers who would not be tied so much more than eight hours a day.
On the other hand, critics fear reduced productivity and worker fatigue. Thus, two-thirds of the opponents of this measure say that productivity would fell after eight hours, and 61 percent worry them to load extended shifts to employees.
Asked to choose between working four days a week for 10 hours or five days for eight hours for the same salary, 37 percent given a four-day working week, while 28 percent supported the existing traditional model.
More than half of the opponents claimed that they could not remain more productive than eight hours, and about 40 percent expressed concern about the lesser time they would have left to their families and hobbies.
