The Commissioner of the German Government for the fight against anti-Semitism called on a more honorary discussion of Germany to Israel, the moment the war in the Gaza belt.
Germany considers the safety of Israel to its “state issue” by the term that reflects the country’s historical responsibility towards Israel after the Holocaust, said Felix Klein for the daily newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
However, Klein warned that that expression was not unambiguous.
“We need to do everything in our power to preserve the security of Israel and Jews around the world,” he said, “but that doesn’t mean that it can justify everything Israel does.”
He stressed that the starving of Palestinians and deliberately deteriorating the humanitarian situation were not justified in the name of the Rights of Israel on existence.
The Commissioner recognized the right of Israel on the self-defense against “genocidal hatred” of Hamas, emphasizing that the military goal is to release Israeli hostages and the fight against Islamist militants used by the civilian population as human shields. Nevertheless, Klein added that it can be called into question the proportionality of Israeli military actions.
Israel recently encountered sharp international criticism due to its last offensive in Gaza and the Humanitarian Aid Blocks in that surrounded enclave.
