A man has died and a girl is missing after heavy flooding hit Spain and Portugal.
Storm Leonardo hit the Iberian Peninsula on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that flooded roads and settlements, damaged homes and forced residents to evacuate, Sky News reported.
A man, believed to be in his 70s, died in Portugal’s southern Alentejo region on Wednesday after his vehicle was swept away by water, local authorities said.

Meanwhile, rescuers in the southern Spanish province of Malaga are searching for a girl who was swept away by the Turvilla River while trying to save her dog.
– All afternoon yesterday and night we searched the river from the place where the girl fell all the way to the mouth. We found the dog, but not her – the fire chief in Malaga, Manuel Marmolejo, told Spanish television.
This winter, Spain and Portugal are being hit by the so-called ‘train of storms’, and the region is expected to be hit by storm Marta during the weekend, the Spanish meteorological agency Aemet said.
