The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced a significantly higher penalties in the event of racist incidents, the roof football organization has published.
The FIFA Council unanimously approved the revised edition of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), which includes a set of proactive regulatory measures aimed at combating discriminatory behavior in the field outside.
Thus, the maximum fine that can be imposed in cases of racist abuse significantly increased, and is now set to 5 million Swiss francs instead of the previous millions.
Players and officials are encouraged in helping the identification of the perpetrator, and all Member States are also mandatory to use the three-stage procedure in the event of racist crimes.
Players or members of the team may show racist insults officially prescribed gesture. After the second phase follows the temporary interruption of the game. The teams can leave the field, discuss the situation and evaluate it. The final phase is a suspension or interruption of the game if abuse continues or the situation cannot be calmed.
Football alliances will need to customize their disciplinary provisions to align them with the general principles of the FDC.
FIFA reserves the right to appeal to the sports arbitration court against decisions in cases of racist abuse, as well as intervening in cases where the competent alliance does not take sufficient measures.
“We now have a legal framework for stronger and decisive action, both at the FIFA level, and in each individual country around the world,” FIFA President Infantino said.
