The Croatian national football team defeated the Slovenian team with a score of 2:1 in the last preparatory match before the start of the 2026 World Cup, played in Varaždin.
Croatia took the lead in the 51st minute when Luka Modrić was accurate, scoring his 29th goal in the national team and giving the home team the advantage after a somewhat quieter first half.
Slovenia got back into the match in the 83rd minute with a goal by Andraž Šporar, after a mistake in the Croatian defense, which made the game more uncertain.
However, the decision came down in stoppage time, when Mario Pašalić hit the crossbar with a powerful shot from distance and gave Croatia the victory in the 93rd minute.
During the match, goalkeeper Dominik Livaković also stood out, saving his team on several occasions, especially in moments when Slovenia created serious opportunities.
This was Croatia’s last test before the trip to the World Cup, where they will play in Group L against England, Panama and Ghana. The team will travel to the final tournament in the coming days, while it is expected that the form and tactical solutions will be further refined before the first performance.
