On Monday, the Ghana Football Association appointed 73-year-old Portuguese football expert Carlos Queiroz as the new coach of the national team that will play in Group L with Croatia, England and Panama at the upcoming World Cup.
Otto Adda was sacked as Ghana coach 72 days before the start of the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, after the “Black Stars” defeated in friendly matches against Austria and Germany in March.
It’s almost at the same time Carlos Queiroz left the position of coach of the Oman national team, which failed to qualify among the 48 teams that will compete in the World Cup in June, which will be held in three countries for the first time.

Quieroza will have it fifth consecutive performance at the world championships in that role. In 2010, he led Portugal to the round of 16 in South Africa, and in 2014 in Brazil, in 2018 in Russia and in 2022 in Qatar, he led the Iranian national team. In 13 games, his teams achieved three wins, four draws and six losses.
Except Portugal, Iran and OmanQueiroz was also in the position of selector United Arab Emirates (1998-1999), South of Africa (2000-2002), Colombia (2019-2020), of Egypt (2020-2021) i Qatar (2023).
As a head coach, he led Sporting Lisbon (1993-1996) and Real Madrid (2003-2004) in club football, and was a long-term assistant to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Queiroz was born in Mozambique and was a goalkeeper during his playing career.
