The Municipal Court in Sarajevo confirmed the indictment of the KS Prosecutor’s Office against Eldin Hodžić for the criminal offenses of damaging computer data and programs and disrupting the operation of electronic data processing systems and networks.
The accused is accused of accessing parts of the information system for which he was not authorized, without the approval of his superiors, from February to May 2021, while he was employed at the position of “system and network administrator” within the IT directorate of “AS Holding” Tešanj.
“Using his professional knowledge, he installed programs for unauthorized access and misuse of data, after which he carried out attacks on the company’s information and communication infrastructure from the official computer, causing downtime and disruptions in the operation of the network, communication and business processes,” the statement reads.
After that, he gained unauthorized access to the user account and data of one of the company’s executives, gaining access to backup copies and computer content.
“The accused then, using fake e-mail messages and several pseudonyms, sent messages demanding payment of 5,000 US dollars in Bitcoin currency. With the intention of obtaining illegal property benefits, the accused is charged with interfering with the operation and use of the information and communication system of the damaged company. For the main trial, the acting prosecutor proposed to the court to hear four witnesses, two experts for computer systems and information technology and present more than 80 material evidence,” it is added in press release, it says Klix.
