Clement Turpin will be the referee of the decisive match for the next World Cup between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy.
The 43-year-old Frenchman is one of the most respected referees on the international scene. During his career, he led more than 600 games, of which more than 100 were in European competitions (Champions League, Europe and Conference League).
Turpin will be assisted by Nicolas Danos (France), Benjamin Pages (France) and Jose Maria Sanchez (Spain). VAR technology will be overseen by Jerome Brisard (France).
It is particularly noteworthy that Turpin refereed the 2022 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris, as well as the 2021 Europa League final at the “Gdansk” stadium in Gdansk between Villarreal and Manchester United. The Frenchman has also refereed at the World and European Championships.
During his career, Turpin refereed the Italian national team five times: the balance is three wins and two losses. One of those defeats is particularly painful – he was the French referee at the debacle in Palermo against North Macedonia, which marked Italy’s second consecutive failure to qualify for the World Cup.
As a reminder, the playoff final match for the upcoming World Cup 2026 between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy will be played on Tuesday at the Bilino Polje stadium in Zenica, starting at 8:45 p.m.
