The Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has temporarily suspended the import of beef from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, after laboratory analyzes of samples from imported shipments showed unsatisfactory, or inconsistent, results. As stated in the instructions, the measure was adopted to protect the health of people and animals.
The Office clarified that shipments accompanied by veterinary health certificates will be allowed to enter as of today, which means that orders that have already gone to Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to enter the country, while the import of new shipments will be suspended until further notice.
“On January 23, 2026, the Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an Instruction on the temporary ban on the import of beef from South American countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay).
The import of beef from South America is temporarily prohibited after the sampling of the imported consignments and unsatisfactory results of laboratory analyzes were submitted, with the aim of protecting the health of people and animals.
The Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will, in cooperation with the competent inspection bodies, carry out additional checks and risk assessment for the import of the mentioned consignments.
Shipments of beef accompanied by veterinary health certificates/invoices issued by the end of the day of adoption of the Instruction will be allowed to be imported into BiH” – it was announced.
It is reminded that chilled or frozen beef intended for processing is most often imported into Bosnia and Herzegovina from these countries, with the obligation not to put it on the market as fresh meat after thawing. RTV Slon.
