The Committee of the World Bank’s Executive Director has approved EUR 79.90 million and a grant of 2.89m euros to support the integrated energy and climate plan, increasing the opportunities for job creation and strengthening the local economies in regions.
From that institution, the project fair transition in selected regions of rich coal in Bosnia and Herzegovina will provide assistance for the conversion of the former mining land in Banovići, Zenica and Crack and facilitate the closure of the pit of Zenica.
The project will also support the installation of the Renewable Energy System on the Land of Banovići and Creek, and ensure social protection measures and employee training programs from these communities to enable employment in other sectors.
The head of the World Bank for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro Christopher Sheldon stated that this project is the opportunity to improve the energy security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while providing local community support, to ensure that no one remains unsuitable.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively working on an integrated energy and climate plan, whose intention is a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as part of the objective decarbonization of the electricity sector until 2050.
