United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the Security Council in an emergency session, where he said he could not confirm information about the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
He emphasized that he was unable to verify the allegations that appeared in the Israeli media, according to which the Iranian leader was killed. At the same time, Guterres expressed deep regret that, as he stated, the opportunity for diplomacy with Iran was not used.
Previously, the Israeli media announced that the Ayatollah was dead, and some world media reported that they had received confirmation from Israeli officials. It is also mentioned that the body was found and that the photo was allegedly forwarded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, initially said that he believed that the information was correct, and then announced on his social network that the news of the death had been confirmed.
On the other hand, there is still no official confirmation from Iran, while a message was published on the Ayatollah’s profile that further fueled speculation about his fate.
