“We will continue to monitor and stay in touch with all states in the path of this storm. Stay safe and stay warm,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social social network.
Several states and the District of Columbia have declared states of emergency due to the weather.
The US National Weather Service has warned of an unusually large and long-lasting winter storm that will bring widespread, large ice accumulation to the southeastern US and could have “devastating to locally catastrophic consequences.”
Meteorologists are predicting record low temperatures and dangerously cold winds. More than 8,800 U.S. flights originally scheduled for today have also been canceled, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.
