When asked about US President Donald Trump’s pre-recorded statements after the attack, Araghchi called regime change efforts “mission impossible.”
“You cannot change the regime while millions of people support the so-called regime,” he added, noting that Tehran is certainly interested in de-escalation.
The US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran early Saturday, claiming it was aimed at eliminating threats from the Iranian regime.
Separate video messages were released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, in which they also hinted at support for efforts to change power in Tehran.
Iran assessed the attacks as a violation of sovereignty, announced a response and launched retaliatory strikes.
The attacks came as talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program were underway, brokered by Oman. The new round of negotiations in Geneva ended on Thursday.
