A high school student in southern France stabbed an art teacher on Tuesday, leaving the 60-year-old in critical condition, a prosecutor said.
A student from a class of young teenagers stabbed the teacher at least three times. He was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, said Raphael Balland, a public prosecutor in the city of Toulon.
French Education Minister Edouard Geffray said he went to La Guicharde high school in Sanary-sur-Mer, where the attack took place.
– My thoughts are immediately with the victim, her family and the entire educational community, whose deep shock I share – he wrote on Xu.
France has recently seen a number of incidents in which students attacked teachers or other students. Last year a 14-year-old student was accused of murdering a female teacher, while in April a student in Nantes killed a girl and wounded several other students in a series of stabbings.
