Today, in the organization of the Public Institution “Center for Sports and Recreation”, and under the auspices of the Municipality of Centar, a memorial cross-country race of elementary school students from the area of this local community, called “Nurka Burazerović”, was held in Jezero City Park in Betania.
Medals were presented to the best individuals by the director of the Public Institution “Center for Sports and Recreation” Mirza Muzurović, the director of the Elementary School “Hasan Kikić” Almir Pleh and the professor of physical and health education at the Elementary School “Safvet-beg Bašagić” Semir Vehabović.
In the category of girls in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades (600 meter race), the first three places were won by: Atina Aleksandra Smirnov from “Hasan Kikić” Elementary School, Emili Kršo from “Musa Ćazim Ćatić” Elementary School and Mila Samardžić from “Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević” Elementary School.
In the category of fifth, sixth and seventh grade boys (800 meter race), the students won: Amar Mirvić from “Mehmed-beg Kapetanović Ljubušak” Elementary School, Ishak Imamović from “Safet-beg Bašagić” Elementary School and Edin Sućeska from “Šip” Elementary School.
In the category of eighth and ninth grade girls (800 meter race), the first three places were won by: Nea Dujsić from “Musa Ćazim Ćatić” Elementary School, Sara Jažić from “Safet-beg Bašagić” Elementary School and Srna Selmanović from “Hasan Kikić” Elementary School.
In the category of eighth- and ninth-grade boys (1000-meter race), the students: Vedad Haramandić from “Safet-beg Bašagić” Elementary School, Zaim Agić from “Musa Ćazim Ćatić” Elementary School and Rijad Jamaković from “Nafija Sarajlić” Elementary School won.
Nurka Burazerović is a girl who gave her life to save children. In 1968, she jumped into Miljacka together with the brave GRAS driver Luka Popović, in order to save the then twelve-year-old boy Ramiz Zekić. The boy entered the river to get the ball, but began to suffocate, so Nurka jumped in and saved him. Nurka was only 27 years old when she saved Ramiz and was a physical education teacher and a member of the “Sarajevo” Athletic Club.
As a reminder, in March 2023, a tombstone dedicated to Nurka Burazerović was discovered in the Alley of the Great at the “Bare” City Cemetery. The construction of the tombstone was financed by the Municipality of Centar.
