At least seven people have been killed and 93 are missing after a landslide triggered by heavy rains and strong winds hit a village in West Bandung district of West Java province, authorities said on Saturday.
The landslide happened late on Friday, after several hours of rain.
The head of the village, Nur Awaludin Lubis, stated that not all of the missing were necessarily killed, as some villagers could have left the threatened area on their own.
Natural disasters, especially floods and landslides, are common in Indonesia due to its mountainous terrain, tropical climate and long rainy seasons.
The risk is further increased in densely populated areas, where deforestation and land conversion destabilize the soil.
