On a monthly basis, imports from Russia were 27.1 percent lower than in November, while compared to December 2024, a decrease of 15 percent was recorded.
In volume terms, India imported 5.8 million tonnes of oil, the lowest volume since February 2025, and Russia’s share of total imports fell to 24.9 percent, the lowest in three years.
The value of India’s oil imports from the United States in December was 569.3 million dollars, which is almost 31 percent more than in December 2024. By volume, oil shipments from the United States to India increased to 1.1 million tons, which is 58 percent more than a year earlier.
Washington and New Delhi are in negotiations over a trade agreement, and there has been speculation in the market that India could reduce its oil purchases from Russia as part of the deal.
Indian authorities, however, have not confirmed these allegations, stating that the country is adjusting its energy policy to market conditions and international circumstances.
