At least 14 migrants have died after the speedboat they were traveling in collided with a coast guard vessel near the Greek island of Chios.
The Greek authorities announced that the speedboat was performing dangerous maneuvers and that at the time of the collision in the Strait of Chios, not far from the village of Vrontades, it was being chased, the BBC writes.
24 people were rescued, some of whom were seriously injured, while others are still missing.
The Coast Guard has not yet clarified the exact circumstances of the collision. A search and rescue operation was underway Tuesday night, involving four coast guard vessels, a private vessel with civilian divers and a helicopter.
Greek state television ERT reported that seven children, a pregnant woman and two members of the coast guard were among the injured.
