Zrinjski players beat Velež 1:0 away from home, opening the 27th round of the WWin League of Bosnia and Herzegovina and continuing their dominance in the Mostar derby.
With this victory, Zrinjski extended their unbeaten streak against their biggest rival to seven games, with as many as six victories, while in the last 18 meetings between them, they have as many as 14 triumphs.
The match started very fiercely, with three yellow cards in the first ten minutes, and in the 14th minute there was an interruption. Velež fans lit torches and ribbons in front of the stand, after which the fire spread, so the referee had to stop the game until the firefighters intervened.
After the resumption, both teams created opportunities, but the realization was lacking. First, Nemanja Bilbija missed a great chance, but in the 40th minute he redeemed himself and scored a header to give the visitors the lead.
By the end of the first half, Velež had several great opportunities, including attempts by Ivan Šarić and Đanij Salčin, but without changing the score.
The home side continued to make mistakes – Andro Babić shot over the goal from a good position in the 48th minute, while Salčin later hit the post.
There were no goals until the end of the match, so Zrinjski took three valuable points.
After this round, Zrinjski consolidated the second position in the table and has six points less than the leader FK Borac Banja Luka, while FK Velež Mostar remains in fourth place, with the possibility of being overtaken by NK Široki Brijeg.
In the next round, Zrinjski will visit Sarajevo, while Velež will welcome Slog from Doboj. Both teams are expecting semi-final matches of the BiH Cup in the middle of the week.
