– The Americans propose that the parties end the war by the beginning of this summer and will probably put pressure on the parties in accordance with this schedule – Zelensky said in an address to journalists published by Ukrainian media, including the state news agency Ukrinform.
Zelensky said that the Ukrainian side understands that domestic issues in the US affect this time frame and believes that the deadline is due to the start of the election campaign for the mid-term elections in the US later this year.
The US has proposed to host a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams for the first time, Zelensky said, adding that this meeting will probably take place in Miami in a week, reports Anadolu.
He went on to say that the US has proposed that both Russia and Ukraine once again support President Donald Trump’s initiative to stop energy strikes, adding that Kiev has confirmed its support, but Moscow has not yet done so.
The Ukrainian president’s statements followed two days of talks between Moscow, Kiev and Washington in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on February 4 and 5, after which Russia and Ukraine held their first prisoner exchange in five months.
Prior to these talks earlier this week, the initial round of trilateral talks were held on January 23 and 24, also in the UAE capital.
