UN for the first time I would place among the countries with a very high human development index

Bosnia and Herzegovina is classified in the category of countries for the first time with a very high human development index (HDI), according to the latest report of the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) for 2023. year. With HDI from 0.804, BiH occupies 74. place of a total of 193 countries and territories covered by research.

Compared to the last year, when HDI BiH amounted to 0.799, which classified in developed countries, this year’s growth of 0.68 percent enabled the transition to a higher category – very high human development. These are the highest category in the classification used by UNDP, which takes into account the expected lifespan, education and gross national income per capita.

According to the available data, the expected age in BiH in 2023. year amounted to 77.85 years, expected years of schooling 13.16, while the average years of schooling 10,97. Gross national income per capita was $ 19,827. Compared to 2000. year, HDI BiH increased by 19.3 percent, which is the result of the growth of all key indicators – from education and health to the economy.

Although lagging behind Western European countries that dominate the top of the list – such as Iceland (0.972), Norway and Switzerland (0.970) – BiH is anterior in the region at progress rate. Compared to Albania (0.810), northern Macedonia (0.815), Serbia (0.833), Montenegro (0.898) and Croatian (0.889), BiH has recorded the highest percentage of HDI growth.

These data indicate the positive trends in BiH’s development, but also the need to further strengthen this progress and expand so that the country continued its climb on the global scale of human development.
