As stated in the statement, Kyiv lodged an official protest with the Hungarian ambassador, firmly denying the accusations of any interference of Ukraine in the internal political processes of Hungary. The Ukrainian Ministry emphasized that it opposes, as they stated, “any attempt by the Hungarian side to involve Ukraine in the Hungarian election campaign”, assessing that such moves harm the bilateral relations of the two countries.
From Kiev, they simultaneously called on Hungary to stop with, as they stated, aggressive rhetoric directed against Ukraine, warning that the continuation of such an approach could lead to an additional deterioration of interstate relations. Despite the tensions, the Ukrainian ministry said it remains open to constructive cooperation with Hungary.
The announcement repeated earlier calls to Budapest to stop blocking Ukraine’s negotiations on joining the European Union. Ukrainian authorities point out that Ukraine’s membership in the EU would be in the interest of both countries, but also of the Hungarian national minority living in Ukraine.
