Turkey’s Defense Ministry said a ballistic missile launched from Iran, which crossed the airspace of Iraq and Syria before entering Turkish airspace, was intercepted by a timely response by NATO’s air and missile defense forces stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Fragments of the missile fell in the municipality of Dörtyol in Hatay, and analysis showed that it was the remains of the missile from the air defense system that intercepted it. There were no victims or injuries in the incident.
The ministry emphasized that Turkey is committed to preserving regional stability and the security of its citizens, and that, regardless of the source of the threat, it will take all measures to defend its territory and airspace.
The statement also called on all parties to avoid steps that could escalate the conflict, noting that consultations with NATO and other allies are continuing.
