US President Donald Trump on Friday introduced the members of the new Gaza Peace Committee, which is supposed to temporarily oversee the Gaza Strip and manage the process of its reconstruction. The committee will be led by Trump himself, and the members include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, international news agencies report.
The committee, which is provided for in Trump’s peace plan for the Palestinian enclave, also includes US special envoy Steve Witkoff, son-in-law Jared Kushner, World Bank president Ajay Banga, billionaire Marc Rowan, owner of the investment fund Apollo Global Management, and Trump adviser Robert Gabriel.
According to the announcements, each board member will oversee a specific sector critical to the stabilization of Gaza, including the establishment of government structures, regional relations, reconstruction, attracting investment, financing major projects and mobilizing capital.
The White House announced that Bulgarian diplomat Nikolai Mladenov will be the high representative for Gaza, while American General Jasper Jeffers will lead the international stabilization forces in the Palestinian territory.
The announcement of the board’s composition came on the same day that a 15-member Palestinian technocratic administration took office, which will oversee daily life and basic services in Gaza, operating under the supervision of the peace board.
The second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, which took effect on October 10 with US support, calls for the disarmament of Hamas, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops and the deployment of international stabilization forces, in line with Trump’s plan approved by the UN Security Council in November.
