The protests of transporters, members of the Logistics Consortium of BiH, continued for the fourth day at the border crossings to the countries of the European Union and will continue until their demands are met. As the main reason for the protest, they cite the problems that drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina face when entering and working in EU countries.
The Consortium warns that the authorities of certain EU member states stop BiH drivers every day, check the length of their stay, and detain and deport those who have stayed longer than 90 days in a six-month period while doing their job.
Carriers are requesting a change to the current 90/180 day rule, pointing out that it applies equally to professional drivers who enter the EU solely for the purpose of doing work and to tourists, which, they claim, leads to serious problems in the functioning of goods transport.
They emphasize that the protests were organized together with drivers from Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, and that it is a regional problem that requires an urgent institutional solution.
In particular, they warn that in April of this year the strict application of the Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin, which could result in the return of drivers from the borders if they have exceeded the permitted stay, and thus a complete collapse of the transport of goods to and from BiH.
In addition to the change in the rules of residence, carriers remind us of previously promised, but unfulfilled requests that are the responsibility of the local authorities. Among them are the return of part of the excise tax on fuel, the conclusion of an agreement with EU countries on the return of VAT, a 50 percent discount on tolls on highways throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as a reduction in the detention of trucks at border crossings and customs terminals.
The Logistics Consortium of BiH states that they received these promises back in September 2025, but that none of them have been realized to date. They also add that since the beginning of the protest, on January 26, none of the representatives of the authorities have contacted them or invited them for talks.
The carriers say that the protests will continue until a solution is found that will allow drivers to work smoothly and prevent serious consequences for the supply of the market. Radio Sarajevo.
