Thunder hit the plane carried by tennis players on Roland Garros

The German Tennis player Alexander Zverev said on Friday that his plane was hit by thunder on the way to French Open and had to return, which delayed his arrival at Grand Slam tournament on slag.

He arrived around 3 in the morning.

“We should have flown yesterday in the evening at 6:45, and we flew out of Hamburg,” Zverev said, last year’s finalist Roland Garros and the third holder this year.

“He hit us thunder. We had to land forcibly back to Hamburg.”

By the time he sat down on the second flight, his journey continued at 1 in the morning.

Zverev should face Learner Tien from the United States in the first round Sunday.

Despite the initial terrifying moment in the air, Zverev described the episode as mostly unsuccessful.

“It made a small noise – without a real swing or something like,” he said. “It was the first time I experienced it.”

He said the Czech player Jiri Leheck and American Brandon Nakashima were also on the plane.

Zverev lost his match on the German Open in Hamburg on Wednesday and said he felt bad.

“I think anyone who knows tennis saw I haven’t been 100%,” he said on Friday.
