Two others are still missing, while two people from their group managed to survive, reports Il Messaggero.
According to initial information, the avalanche engulfed two separate mountaineering teams. The first one, in which there were three alpinists, was completely buried by snow, and all members of that group died. In the second group, which consisted of four people, two managed to avoid the worst outcome, while the search for the remaining two is underway.
The search and rescue operation is led by the station of the Mountain Rescue Service from the town of Solda, with the help of nearby units, the Mountain Rescue Service of the Financial Police, the Pelikan 3 helicopter service and firefighters in the valley.
The search continues tonight, with the support of drones and helicopters searching the avalanche area. Rescuers state that conditions on the ground are extremely difficult due to unstable snow and reduced visibility.
So far, the authorities have not announced the identities of the dead or missing alpinists, but it has been confirmed that they all come from Germany.
