City public companies and institutions are led by directors who have held these positions for many years. However, the public was not a little surprised when the City Council of the City of Tuzla gave its consent for people who should have retired long ago to remain in the positions of directors. When we think that nothing can surprise us anymore, then at the session of the City Council of the City of Tuzla, we learn that the councilors gave their consent to the appointment of directors of public companies who should have retired a long time ago. The most impressive is the director of the Tuzla Veterinary Station, who became director in 1982 at the age of 28. Today, at the age of 72 and 44 years later, he still performs the same function.
Criticism due to the way public invitations are published
“Public invitations are not published on the pages of those public companies, public institutions, they are not published on the pages of the City of Tuzla, they are not published in the media that we, as citizens of Tuzla, finance, which would be quite correct, but they are published in other newspapers that are less read and less interesting. Now, I have had a call from people from that profession who ask me where the invitation was published. Believe me, I cannot find it,” says Councilor in the City Council of the City of Tuzla Dragana Gagro Berberović.
When councilor Gagro Berberović indicated that she would not support the appointment because chances should be given to young people, she was left almost alone, and she was also attacked because, as councilor Mirnes Ajanović states, she discriminates against people based on age.
“The police should now be called to record what we said and to prosecute the criminal offense of discrimination under the Criminal Code. I am now listening to the direct criminal offense. If she does not withdraw her position, I suggest that we take a break, that we call the police, that we record what happened, that the prosecutor be informed. It is not funny, ba! They are talking here, it is funny for them!”, said Ajanović at the session of the City Council of the City of Tuzla.
No response from the director
Since in Tuzla the appointment of the director of the Tuzla Veterinary Station is the number one topic in the city, we tried to get in touch with him and hear the other side of the story. However, he did not answer phone calls or text messages.
Earlier, he said in the media that there is no age limit in the law and that he is the only candidate who applied for the competition.
Youth without opportunities
“This mostly affects young people, people who are talented, educated, parents who invested all their money in their children in order to achieve something and then we get a political job,” said Adnan Gavranović from the “Zdrava Tuzla” Platform.
In the Youth Resource Center they also point out that no one has access to expertise, knowledge and experience, but that not giving young people an opportunity further encourages them to leave the country.
“I think that there is a big gap between young people and pensioners and that it is almost impossible for them to understand, today in the digital era, not only the needs of young people, but the biggest pain for us here, in Tuzla especially, and that is the departure of young people. Unfortunately, one of the reasons why young people leave this city is because they do not feel recognized,” believes Slobodan Blagovčanin from the Tuzla Youth Resource Center.
The directors of only three public companies in Tuzla have more than 200 years together. That’s why young people leave here for a reason and say they’ll come back when they retire.
