Croatian coach Zlatko Dalić sent invitations to footballers he will count on in the USA, Canada and Mexico, and among the invited players there is not a single footballer from the club that dominated the HNL championship this season.
Dinamo fans expected that Dion Drena Beljo, who this season in 35 games in the HNL, scored an incredible 31 goals and five assists, would receive a call-up to the national team, if no one else.
Beljo only got a call-up, just like Luka Stojković, the other player from Dinamo whom the Croatian public expected in the team for the World Cup.
On the list is Dominik Livaković, who is currently a member of Dinamo, but is in Zagreb on loan from Fenerbahce, which will end by the start of the World Cup.
By the way, there is only one footballer from HNL on Dalić’s list, and that is Toni Fruk from Rijeka.
Dinamo and its former players have been the backbone of the Croatian national team for decades, and only once has it happened that no player from the Blues was part of Croatia at a major competition. It was in 2004 at the European Championship in Portugal, when the selector was Otto Barić.
