According to NewsNation reports, citing Pentagon sources, the USS Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by escort ships and at least one submarine, is heading for the US Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility, which includes the Middle East.
The transit is expected to take about seven days.
The move comes as protests intensify in Iran and after US President Donald Trump warned of possible military intervention in the unrest. The diversion significantly strengthens the US military presence near Iran’s borders.
CENTCOM’s area of responsibility includes Northeast Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia, a total of 21 countries, including Iraq and Iran, which emphasizes the strategic importance of this decision.
The Pentagon has not publicly announced the specific operational goals of the deployment, but the timing points to growing concern in Washington about regional instability and potential escalation of the conflict.
