The United States and Israel said Monday that they had conducted joint naval exercises in the Red Sea, describing the maneuver as routine.
The exercises, which took place on Sunday, take place in the context of increased tensions between Washington and Iran.
The American guided-missile destroyer Delbert D Black took part in the maneuver, which later traveled to the Israeli port city of Eilat. Israel’s military said the deployment underscored “the close cooperation between the two navies and respective armies.”

On the Israeli side, the corvette INS Eilat participated in the exercises.
The Delbert D Black, which has since left an Israeli port, is equipped for air, naval and submarine defense, as well as precision strikes against land targets.
Tensions between the US and Iran have risen in recent weeks. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran’s leadership with military strikes, in part because of the state’s brutal crackdown on protesters during recent mass protests that are said to have killed thousands, if not tens of thousands, of people.
