The unemployment rate in the European Union was 5.9 percent, stable compared to January 2026, and lower than six percent a year earlier, Eurostat announced.
It is estimated that in February 2026 there were 13.118 million unemployed people in the EU, of which 10.919 million were in the eurozone. Compared to January 2026, the number of unemployed increased by 137 thousand in the EU and by 93 thousand in the eurozone, while compared to February 2025, it decreased by 18 thousand in the EU and by 124 thousand in the eurozone.
In February 2026, youth unemployment (under 25) in the EU amounted to 2.957 million, of which 2.373 million were in the eurozone.
The female unemployment rate in the EU in February 2026 was 6.1 percent, compared to six percent in January, while the male unemployment rate remained stable at 5.7 percent.
