The 18-year-old Spanish national team player was injured on Wednesday, when Barcelona narrowly beat Celta Vigo 1:0, and the injury occurred moments after he scored a penalty kick towards the end of the first half.
“The tests carried out have confirmed that Lamine Yamal has an injury to the thigh muscle of his left leg,” stated an official statement from Barcelona.
“The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season and is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
Barcelona still has six league games, and enters them with a nine-point advantage over second-placed Real Madrid.
The Spanish national team should assemble on May 30, and the deadline for sending the final list of players for the World Cup is June 1.
Spain will play its first match at the World Cup on June 15 against the Cape Verdean national team, and Uruguay and Saudi Arabia are also in the same group.
