The construction of the highway on Corridor 5C in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues as planned, and already during this quarter drivers could get a new section of the highway on the route from Doboj to Zenica.
It is about the section Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo, which is located near Tešnj.
The Highways of the Federation of BiH said that the work on the 8.5-kilometer long route is taking place without interruption, that the route has been completed completely, and that the remaining finesse are in order for it to be fully ready to be handed over to the citizens of BiH.
This year is planned as a period in which several sections will be put into circulation, one after the other, and the first of them is precisely Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo, where the works were carried out by Euroasfalt.
The route is located on the last part of the highway in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in the north it connects to the highway in the Republic of Srpska that leads to Gradiška.
Although this section will not be of much use to ordinary travelers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, considering that it is connected to the Ozimica – Medakovo section, which will be opened a little later and will have a direct connection/disconnection from the M-17 highway near Žepč.
However, this section will have a special importance for the area of Tešnja, Usora and Doboja Juga, especially businessmen, because it represents a key link between the north of the country and the central part of Bosnia.
More than the highway itself
In addition to the route, the project included a number of other complex infrastructural interventions, including the construction and completion of engineering and hydrotechnical facilities, which are necessary for the long-term safety and functionality of the route, the regulation of the Usora and Tešanjka rivers, and numerous other projects.
Along with the construction of the highway, the reconstruction of the local road towards Tešanj, the construction of the Bukva – Tešanjka water supply system, as well as the relocation and adaptation of parts of the existing road infrastructure, as well as projects related to the electrical network, were carried out.
The FBiH Highway previously emphasized that the goal of the project is for Corridor 5C to bring concrete benefits not only to transit traffic, but also to local communities, through better connectivity, safer traffic and the improvement of communal infrastructure.
On the section Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo, the Tešanjka 1 and Tešanjka 2 bridges, as well as the smaller Hrastik tunnel, stand out.
In addition to the above, the section includes several bridges and overpasses, underpasses, hydrotechnical facilities, as well as traffic loops, which ensures the full functionality and safety of the highway in accordance with current European standards.
Plans for the next period
According to the already known plan, the opening of the Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, the opening of the route near Zenica Vranduk – Ponirak – Nemila is planned a little later, and the Medakovo – Ozimica section a little later at the end of the year.
With this dynamic, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will only feel the greater benefit of using the highway, meaning at the end of the year, when all significant sections that connect to each other will be fully opened, writes Klix.
