The Louvre Museum was forced to close its doors on Monday due to a staff strike, the latest disruption to the world’s most visited museum, management said.
– Due to public strikes, the Louvre Museum is closed today – it is stated in a message published on the museum’s official website, with a notice to disappointed tourists and art lovers that their tickets will be automatically refunded.
The museum was closed all day last month, and has only been partially open several times since then.
Almost three months after the shameful robbery in broad daylight, which further increased the pressure on the management of the Louvre, the employees are demanding new employment and better maintenance of the huge former royal palace.
Questions remain after the Oct. 19 break-in about whether the incident could have been prevented and how the thieves were able to steal more than $100 million worth of crown jewels.
The two burglars used a lift truck to get to the jewelery gallery and used cutters to smash through the glass door in front of stunned visitors before stealing eight priceless items.
