The Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton reported the latest information on the stage of the investigation after the accident when the tram derailed near the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“After the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo rejected the proposal of the KS Prosecutor’s Office to order a one-month detention for the tram driver, the acting prosecutors respected the court’s position, since it established that there is a well-founded suspicion that the driver committed the crime of recklessly endangering public traffic with fatal consequences, they continued to take intensive evidence in the investigation of the tram accident, which is being worked on by a team of prosecutors from the Department for General and Economic Crime and Corruption”, they stated.
They add that the witnesses were heard and video surveillance recordings were released.
The investigation is being conducted in several directions, with a special emphasis on the technical correctness of the tram.
So far, 30 witnesses have been heard, with the exception of 10 video surveillance recordings from all surrounding facilities, including video surveillance footage from BH Telecom, the National Museum, the Technical School and footage from the tram cabin. All these videos are currently undergoing forensic processing. Also, extensive documentation related to the reconstruction of the complete tram line and the signal plans of all relevant intersections, which will be expertized, have been removed from the Ministry of Transport of the Canton of Sarajevo.
“Evidence is being collected with the aim of comprehensive expertise in the mechanical, traffic and electric power professions,” they added.
Given the great interest of the public in this case, they also stated what depends on when the investigation will be completed.
Otherwise, the dynamics of work on this case will depend on the speed of action of investigators of police agencies, experts, other law enforcement agencies and on the issuing of orders by the competent court, which are necessary for any actions of evidence in the field”, they emphasized at the end of the statement.
