The FBiH government borrows more than 120 million KM in order to maintain current liquidity

The federal government made a decision on new debts in the amount of more than 120 million KM.

These are short-term loans in the amount of five to 50 million KM with a total of four banks operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina. All four loans are for maintaining current liquidity, Faktor learns.

According to the decision on temporary financing of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period January – March 2026, receipts from short-term borrowing in the gross amount of 240 million KM are planned.

– Short-term borrowing in the amount of up to 120 million KM is planned to be carried out with short-term loans from domestic banks – the document states.

The debts are: With ASA Bank in the amount of 50,000,000 KM, with Intesa Sanpaolo bank in the amount of 50,000,000 KM, with Privredna banka Sarajevo in the amount of 20,000,000 KM, with Union banka Sarajevo in the amount of 5,000,000 KM.

The sum of the individual decisions made for each bank is 125,000,000 KM, although the decision itself states the amount of 120 million.

The borrowing decision specifies, among other things:

– Bearing in mind the urgency of securing short-term sources of financing and optimizing financing costs, and respecting good international practices of treasury liquidity management, the Federal Ministry of Finance has asked the banks with which it has established a business relationship (four transaction banks: Union banka, PBS banka, Intesa Sanpaolo banka and ASA banka) to declare whether they are able to secure short-term revolving loans and indicative short-term loans with maturity by the end of February 2026 December 31, 2026, at interest rates of 1.99% per annum, which interest rate is equivalent to the interest rates from the last auction of six-month treasury bills, which was held on November 18, 2025. (interest rate was 1.988%), with a one-time loan processing fee of 0.1%.

The cost of the loan processing fee of 0.1% of the loan amount is equivalent to the cost of issuing treasury bills of the same or similar volume.
