Starbucks published the earnings for the second quarter on Tuesday, which was below the Wall Street estimation, while the new CEO Brian Niccol tries to reverse the business of giant coffee.

Comparable sales in American shops – closely followed by metric that includes results only from shops open longer than one year – fifth quarter in a row, sinking by 2%.

The decline is caused by falling transactions, which fell by 4%. The average account size, or amount spent in each transaction, increased by 3% in the USA.

Investors were also particularly focused on the company’s results in China after four consecutive quarters of comparable falling falls. In the last quarter, comparable sales in China was unchanged, as the increase in transactions of 4% is compensated by falling account sizes of 4%, seebiz transmits. In other words, more customers went to Starbucks in China, but they spent less money.

The company reported a custom earnings per share of $ 0.41 for the quarter that ended in 30. March, which was expected to expect analysts from Wall Street, while the revenue of 8.76 billion USD was less than projected 8.83 billion USD.

Starbucks shares haven’t changed a lot in trading after hours on Tuesday.

Starbucks shares lost 7% this year, behind the loss of S & P 500 of 5.5% in the same period. During the last year, the shares fell by about 4% compared to the growth of the Reference Index of 8.7%.

Starbucks reported a custom operational margin – the percentage of revenue that remains after operating costs – from 8.2%, which is below 9.5% to expected analysts, according to Bloomberg.
