According to their claims, since the beginning of the conflict between the United States of America (US) and Iran on Saturday, Moscow has been providing Tehran with information that could help identify and target American targets. It is not clear, however, what the actual extent of Russian aid is.
The Russian embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment, while Moscow earlier called the conflict “an unprovoked act of armed aggression” and called for an end to hostilities.
On Sunday, an Iranian drone attack in Kuwait killed six American soldiers and wounded several others. According to available data, Iran has carried out numerous drone and missile attacks on American military positions and diplomatic facilities in the region.
At the same time, US-Israeli forces hit more than 2,000 targets in Iran, including ballistic missile sites and naval facilities. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said the Iranian regime has been “severely weakened,” saying its military capabilities have been greatly reduced.
US officials argue that Iran has limited satellite capabilities, so access to Russian intelligence and space resources could be of great benefit for more precise strikes. The Pentagon and the CIA declined to comment on allegations of Russian support.
Analysts warn that such cooperation could further exacerbate international tensions, especially in the context of the wider geopolitical competition that deepened after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
